Since 1998, Asset Verification, Inc. (AVI) has helped individuals, families, businesses, churches, and their professional advisors document and value tangible personal property assets. What began with a simple realization—that people often discover the importance of documentation only after a loss—has grown into a specialized company providing professional personal property inventory, documentation, and appraisal services.
Think of us as accountants for your tangible personal property. We document what you own, establish what it’s worth, and organize the information so you and your advisors can use it when it matters. For individuals and families, businesses, churches, estate planning professionals, insurance professionals, and family offices, AVI provides the expertise and reliable information needed to make informed decisions about personal property.
Why AVI Exists
AVI began with a house fire.
A family friend lost everything and discovered, too late, how difficult it was to document what had been lost—and how devastating inadequate insurance coverage could be. Without records or accurate insurance coverage, their financial loss was overwhelming.
When they learned that fewer than 1% of households have a current, detailed inventory of their personal property, Randy Forman and Dean Fulghom saw an opportunity to help people avoid facing the same problem. In 1998, they founded AVI to provide detailed documentation and professional appraisals of personal property assets before they were needed.
Know What You Own. Know What It’s Worth. Document It Before You Need It.
What Makes AVI Different
AVI has no financial interest in the property it inventories or appraises. We don't buy or sell the assets we evaluate, provide auction services, or receive contingent commissions from insurance carriers or brokers. Our independence allows us to provide objective documentation and appraisals.
AVI's appraisal work is performed by qualified professionals and follows the Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice (USPAP) and applicable IRS reporting guidelines. AVI provides certified appraisals, not simply estimated values. When an appraisal is needed for insurance, estate, legal, tax, charitable, or other important purposes, professionally prepared documentation can withstand the scrutiny those situations may require.
Client information and appraisal work are maintained in secure, encrypted, web-based systems designed to protect sensitive personal property information.
AVI offers a breadth of personal property documentation and appraisal services rarely found under one roof—from individual appraisals to comprehensive inventory and appraisal, 3D documentation, and ongoing asset management
AVI also works with an unusually broad range of clients, including individuals and families, businesses, churches, estate planning attorneys and advisors, insurance professionals and companies, and family offices.
Experience That Matters
AVI has specialized in documenting and appraising tangible personal property assets for more than 25 years.
AVI’s work has supported insurance decisions and claims, estate planning and settlement, charitable giving, legal matters, and other situations where accurate information about personal property matters.
When Preperation Makes All The Difference
A client’s vacation home was destroyed by fire, resulting in a personal property loss of more than $3 million.
Fortunately, AVI had documented and appraised the home’s contents before the loss. That documentation had helped establish appropriate insurance coverage and provided detailed evidence when the claim was disputed. After nearly a year of litigation, the insurance company ultimately paid the full amount of the claim plus the client’s legal fees.
The documentation was there before the loss. It made a $3 million difference.
